The Study on Integrated Electromyogram (iEMG) of Lower Limb During Balancing According to the Levels of Participation in the Dancesport

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: This study was purposed to provide the basic data necessary for developing the efficient exercise program for participants in the dancesport, by different results of electromyogram during balancing of participants in the dancesport whose levels are categorized for the analysis.

METHOD: Participants of this study were chosen from females of 20s to 30s in Busan; 78 from the player group of dancesport, 66 from the experienced group, and 72 from the general group. Variables of lower extremity muscle¡¯s iEMG are iEMGs of tibialis anterior, soleus, medial head of gastrocnemius, and lateral head of gastrocnemius. Variables are measures by levels of participantion in the dancesports. Results are analyzed by SPSS 12.0, using one-way ANOVA. If any significance is shown, the post-test was conducted by the Scheffe method. The level of significance in denial of statistical hypothesis is p<.05.

RESULT: For lower extremity muscle¡¯s iEMG, the player group had a higher number in medial head of gastrocnemius(p<.001) than lateral head of gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior and soleus. Tibialis anterior was statistically higher (p<.001) than lateral head of gastrocnemius. The experience group had a higher number in medial head of gastrocnemius(p<.001) than lateral head of gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, and soleus. Tibialis anterior was statistically higher (p<.001) than soleus and lateral head of gastrocnemius. The general group showed a higher iEMG (p<.001) in tibialis anterior than soleus, medial head of gastrocnemius, and lateral head of gastrocnemius. Medial head of gastrocnemius was statistically higher than soleus and lateral head of gastrocnemius (p<.001). Comparing iEMGs of each group of participants while balancing, tbialis anterior was higher in the general and experienced group than the player group (p<.001). Soleus was higher in the experienced group than the general group(p<.05). Medial head of gastrocnemius was higher in the player group than the experienced and the general group (p<.001), while the experienced group was higher than the general group. However, lateral head of gastrocnemius does not show any statistical significance.
CONCLUSION: For lower extremity muscle¡¯s iEMG while alancing, the player and experienced group has the highest medial head of gastrocnemius, while the general group has the highest tibialis anterior.
